Status Update – 2016

UPDATE (2.0)
HOORAY, A NEW YEAR!

What’s crackin’, y’all? Can anybody guess what time it is? Bingo! As done once before, we’ll be outlining our progress and/or future plans by category and will address your questions (if any) in the comments below. Just to go ahead and throw this out there, we still think that you guys rock for cheering us on so earnestly even if we’re not exactly who you’d call the fastest group in town. Let’s have our fingers crossed that 2016 will bring out the best in us, and oodles of success along with it… 파이팅! Why yes, that is Korean! Are you surprised? Perhaps even jealous? Anyway… Step on up! We won’t bite… Maybe… Hahaha, but seriously we’d be happy to chat so don’t be shy! [:

“TURBORANGER?”

We have a handful of episodes that are just about finished, but they’re pending TLC. The script that Shourikan is currently looking over is already halfway translated, so we’d like to think that things are going smoothly enough. It’s pretty much “they’ll be out when they’re ready”, though we can’t offer any sort of estimate as to when. We will say this, though! We weren’t able to release as much as we’d have liked last year, so we’re hoping to make up for it this time around.

“FLASHMAN?”

It’s right where we left it, with episodes 01 – 05 and the movie fully translated… Buttt!! Our friends over at Grown Ups In Spandex have begun working on it (and it should go without saying that they’ll pass us in due time), so there won’t be another peep about it from us now that it’s officially taken care of. You can bet your cookies that the project is in good hands, so please give them your wholehearted support! Really though, we wish you the best of luck fellas! – Salute –

“GORENGER?”

The next two episodes (51 – 52) need to be looked over, but they should be out reasonably soon… Look forward to it! Even though our partners at Rampage Subs are on episode 54 (in Portuguese), in actuality Mio has at least up to episode 56 translated. We’ve also begun checking Bad Apple’s work, but they’ll be redistributed via batches (or should we say ‘bushels’, hm?) as opposed to individually since they’ve already been available for awhile. With that said, the release pace has never been better and we can’t thank Cel and our new member SentaiFan enough! ^-^

“JAKQ?”

Episode 05 is pending TLC, and you best believe that Sky’s been translating ahead as per usual. To be rather straightforward… We’ll try to release as much as possible, and are at least expecting to break into the double digits this year. Also, in regards to some comments from anonymous posters who we’ve noted on /m/ (or is it the same dude over and over?)… We’d like to give a polite reminder that we’re not slowing down Kamen Rider 1971 whatsoever, or any other KITsubs projects for that matter. Sky has long finished up to episode 70 (if not more) in the translation department, so rest assured knowing that she’s cool and not responsible for any of the delays.

“THE ARCHIVES?”

Uh, not really sure. This isn’t a top priority or anything, so apologies up front if anyone has been kept waiting for something in particular… Though if you ‘have’, then please let us know and we’ll be sure to get around to it sooner. Next up are the Goggle V episodes (and movie) that were translated by Dead Fish FanSubs and Goggle-Anon. After that, it’ll be the DaiRanger movie that was released by Hikari-Senshi (assuming that we get the approval to do so). It wasn’t bundled in with the Shout! Factory DVD’s, and I’ve heard that it’s filed under an entirely different license so it should be fine… Right? Right?? Correct me if I’m wrong, though… Pleaseee… Otherwise, if you have stuff that is considered “hard to come by” or anything else that we’re looking for then please share it with us because the more the merrier! I’m sure that we’d all be grateful if you did, hehe.

“WHAT’S NEXT?”

Hmmm… Though it isn’t quite set in stone just yet (we’re still hammering out the finer details), we might be collaborating on a standalone movie with another group that we’re good friends with. Once JAKQ is finished (or well under way, like maybe around episode 15 or so) we may take the opportunity to start up on a certain 80’s Sentai. We’ve also been considering a few Metal Heroes as potential projects, so there’s that too. But don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten that our biggest responsibility is to finish what we’ve started so we’ll try not to get carried away. :’P

Thanks for reading, and we hope that you have a wonderful 2016! Be sure to make the most of it!

  1. I would be happy to be the main man in charge of Archives, no one would have to think about working on it, and be getting more content out to the homosapiens. Plus, I hvae software which can turn a video into most files (MP4, MP3, etc.) Please reply on whether you are or are not interested.

      • All I can say is that is an insane amount of work, so good luck…

If you’re actually intent on doing Denjiman though, then I’d suggest reaching out to Clock Up and letting him know ’cause he might’ve been looking forward to it.

      • I doubt it will be a problem, if you know what i mean (and if you don’t, he will probably change his mind 2-3 times before losing his translator or rush the job so you shouldn’t worry about that until he show us what his translator can do XD).

      • @ KudosForce

You say that as if groups being considerate towards one another is a bad thing…

Anyway, Nanto seems like a selfless guy who loves working on shows that people would otherwise not be able to watch. I’m also fairly sure that in many cases he pays for the translations out of his own pocket, too… It’s perfectly sensible for him to shift his efforts away from things that get licensed in favour of things that aren’t, and I can’t say that I appreciate you calling him out like that.

      • Erm, I mean this in the nicest way possible but please don’t link your work in our comments… I mean, it’s not a problem or anything but GoggleAka gets a pass because his project is small time and he doesn’t really have anywhere else to advertise… Like, generally speaking you guys should find a proper place to let people know that you’ve released things and not our website… ‘^^

    • …….Wow, I thought that I was only giving a subtle hint but then you made me realize that most of the 80’s is already finished/being done and just wow. There’s literally only two 80’s series that it could be, so I hope you don’t mind me not answering… >___<

      • Let me clarify, figuring this out is difficult. I selected Denjiman because mystery translator man wanted to do either Denjiman or Turboranger, I think yo can guess which one I told us to back off from. I have to balance a lot. Sorry Angel, it should clear up when we get an episode out, but it may change.
        Here is the current schedule:
Changeman Episodes 23 and 30, the last two videos translated by my Portuguese-Speaking friend.
        Denjiman Complete,
        Fiveman Episodes 13-48,
        Jiraiya Complete,
        Kabutack Complete,
        Robotack Complete.
I can’t say the schedule will remain perfectly in place. But that’s what we have figured out. My friend Nat, who speaks Portuguese, is now the Timer. I am also thinking of making a release that covers one episode of two series. Example: Changeman Bunch, Denjiman 1 and Fiveman 13. I have lost two people who have quit. One is GoggleAka and the other is SpecialForm12, who has a life and career to fulfill (I know what a loser). So it is very crazy over here. But I’m glad we can have one of the Japanese Speakers over here! Thank you for being one of our only fans, Angel. It is very confusing.

      • I can respect that. There’s way too many groups who are too polite and afraid to step on other people’s toes (especially Skaro Hunting Society, which has Nanto abandoning ship on a show the second it gets licensed). The fansub community needs to follow the example of people like you more.

      • Here’s the story, I wanted to do Denjiman, Claimed. Bioman, Rebirthed. Goggle V, Claimed. And now, I just want to work on Part 1 of a saga (Denjiman and Sun Vulcan). It is always a plus to see Kenji Ohba’s beautiful face.

      • You do have a lot of legroom, since Rampage Subs isn’t too speedy. Not sure if you’ll keep the name consistency for Denjiman though (Gao Soul Forever’s release of Sun Vulcan had it spelled as Denziman in a few episodes).

  3. I didn’t actually realize the archive was a thing until this post >.>

But anyway, are you planning on doing a Kamen Rider guide much the same way you’ve done a Super Sentai and Metal Heroes guide?

Thanks again for all the work you all do!

    • No biggie, it’s not like we were going around and advertising it… Lowkey, lowkey lol

I don’t know… Is this website not considered reliable? http://kamenriderguide.weebly.com/ Or is our way just your preference? O.o The main issue I see would be that I’m the one who keeps the guides up to date, and I don’t know jack about Kamen Rider… So I’d probably be late to find out about new groups/information, and I’m not well versed with the fansubbing groups from that side either so I’d have to bother somebody (probably Shourikan or Sky) about translation accuracy and stuff… :’D That, and Robinosuke hasn’t made the SD chibi sprite thingys for the older Riders (I know that’s not a deal breaker, but nonetheless) http://robinosuke.deviantart.com/gallery/27076190/SD-Kamen-Rider

But si, thank you for the kind words [:

      • Yeah the sub’s quality that I translate awful now, they even left some lines blank and I don’t have a translator to help, so I have to stop for now. But I’m working on something else instead Metal Heroes related. Turboranger’s a great series as well, I’m loving it. I have faith in you all.

    • That’s very true! And don’t give up, you may still find a translator of your own some day! Hang in there c: I’ve heard some people raving about Changerion before (though IDK if it’s my cup of tea or not), and it’s a shame that nobody’s taken a shot at it considering it has captions and proper raws and everything… Then again, the same could be said for Bycrosser too. Whatever you go with, it’s still nice to hear that you’re not just going to give up and quit (:

@ Wheel, I think that you may have misread ‘Changerion’ for ‘Changeman’

      • One of favorite movies is The Blues Brothers. I asked a friend what the show would be like if it were a Toku show, he said: “Like Byclosser”. I found out what Byclosser was and I had to watch it. So I’m going to sub it.

      • I’ve heard things about Changerion and I’ve seen people who loved it, and I’m interested. I saw something on Twitter about Changerion subs, but those were ripped from the TV broadcasts and even the commercials were subbed. Yeah one day I hope to find a translator, but the options are very limited, there are not many willing Japanese speaking Toku fans. And I’d finish Guyferd first if I got one. I won’t give up because I like doing it and contributing, and won’t stop looking for a translator. I just don’t know where to look. Thanks again.

      • I talked to DJ today (he’s the subber), and he is working, don’t know when, but it will happen. Sorry for not being more direct. But, I will do the goggleaka trick, where I post releases in the comments. This is the list:
        Denjiman,
        Fiveman (Only Episodes 13-48)
        Jiraiya,
        Byclosser,
        Kabutack,
        Robotack.
We may have a one-off. We are tossing around Goggle V and a Kamen Rider season, but who knows. And yes, I know it is a long list.

  4. @Wheeln Shifter: Just letting you know that Big Nova fansubs (https://bignovasubs.wordpress.com/) are also working on Byclosser. No idea what the status is with them though, so you might want to ask over there. Also, where are you getting raws for Kabu/Robotack from, Brazilian dvds? Cause as far as I know, the japanese dvds haven’t been released.
Would Jiraiya be based on the Portuguese dub/subs, out of curiosity?

    • I’ve heard that Kabutack and Robotack were supposed to be bad, but for the Japanese to have not even released them on DVD… @-@

Big Nova totally slipped my mind for a second, but Champstice is right you should definitely ask Tokugami about it first ’cause I know that he’s been wanting to do it but (I think) the group doesn’t have a translator which is why… :X

    • I have a Japanese speaker, so no Portuguese scrubs will be needed nor used.
Big Nova hasn’t made a release in a year and hasn’t made a Byclosser release in a year in a half. I see no reason in sending an Email and crossing my fingers on a reply. Kabu/Robo are on Bunny Hat Raws.

      • I can confirm that Tokugami is indeed quick to reply though, we actually talked to each other maybe a week or two ago. He might’ve been willing to help with timing or something, but it was only a suggestion and it’s up to you in the end.

Looks like you’ll also have to figure out a place to get Kabutack and Robotack raws, since yeah like Champstice pointed out… D:

    • I couldn’t say for sure but I think that it had more to do with the franchise than the shows themselves, like, how can you go from entries like Gavan, Juspion or Winspector to those goofy looking robots y’know? :X

      Like

      • Robotack and Kabutack are more a continuation of the Toei Fushigi robot shows like Robocon and Batten Robomaru in that they are shows about loveable sentient robots living amongst the community and being the children’s friends, whereas the Metal Hero shows are primarily about young adults who transform into metallic heroes. While there are sentient robots on some of the Metal Hero shows, they have jobs to do and are considered members of the team. The dynamic is the same though, just seen through the respective prisms of child and adult(living side by side as partners and living side by side as friends). Also, the Fushigi shows are more comedically oriented, and the Metal Hero shows only sporadically use the robots as a source of comic relief(the end credits of the Rescue Trilogy are perfect examples of this). Blaze Robocon aired after Robotack finished, so I take that to mean that Toei considered Kabtack and Robotack as more Fushigi than Metal Hero. Toei does officially list them as Metal Hero shows, but by the time that Kabutack aired in 1997 the Fushigi shows had been off the air since 1993, so perhaps they thought they could keep the older viewers by branding them as metal hero shows, and attract a new younger audience by making them Fushigi-esque. In the bits I’ve seen of Kabutack, it does appear to be more action-oriented than the Fushigi robot shows and I recall a few of them being able to transform into more badass versions of themsleves, so that’s what got me to consider the “two birds with one stone” hypothesis. Hi no Tori subbed the B-Robo Kabutack Christmas War movie, so I recommend checking that out before you announce your doing Kabutack or Robotack, as they may be more childish than you realize, and they might make for an unenjoyable subbing project. As for DVDs, I think they will come out with them eventually it will just take a while(Toei announced they are putting out Robot 8-Chan in 2016, and that show is from 1981), as there does appear to be enough of a following for the robot shows to warrant it(I wish the same could be said for the two Fushigi “Kid Detective” shows Marik-Gumi and Haado-Gumi, as they look really interesting from this Youtube clip of a mashup special between the two shows: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H23WJxgFoB0 ).

    • @ Asper

Perhaps, though they couldn’t have been ‘that’ bad if they weren’t outright cancelled right? O.o …Then again, the franchise having stopped could be Robotack’s fault.

      @ Makibishi

      I love your posts 😛

I’m not really sure if Toei still considers Kabutack and Robotack to be Metal Heroes any more, though. I think that I’ve made a similar comment on our website before, but in Super Hero Taisen Z they had a list of all of the Metal Heroes and both of them weren’t there… And it doesn’t help that the Metal Hero Ranger Key sets (especially the most recent one that I think was supposed to encompass each series that hasn’t had a Key before) didn’t include them either :[

…It’s true that Korean is my first language, but I’m not a native speaker and never studied it formally. Like, sure, depending on what it is I’m good enough to translate decently enough but I have to admit that my understanding of it is sort of hit and miss. For example, I tried watching the GunBlade (another Korean tokusatsu) trailer and I couldn’t understand chunks of it at all because some of it was science/military/big words that I’ve never heard through regular conversation in my life. But on the other hand, I’ve been translating a Korean comedy and I can get a lot of it just fine. At best, I’d still need someone to help translation check my work… Sorry to disappoint. 😦

(and of course there’s the other matters of where to get raws and how many episodes there are and how long they’d be)

They’re probably fine. They’re known to be on the slow side (which is weird coming from us, but still) so don’t worry. I’m sure that they’ll release once they’re good and ready. Denjiman hasn’t been done.
    Sun Vulcan has been completed.
Goggle V is being worked on by another group. (They just realized episode 9)
    Dynaman hasn’t been done.
Bioman has been finished by G.U.I.S.
Changeman & Flashman are G.U.I.S. current projects.
Maskman & Liveman were already done by them, They finished those before doing Bioman.
    And you’re doing Turboranger.

So it has to be Denjiman, Dynaman, or if you absolutely have to Goggle V.

I’m sure they’ll appreciate the sentiment, but it’s best just to be patient with them. :X

We know what we’re doing though, so don’t worry about it.

      • The problem with JAKQ reign was that it was before its time. I think that if the series consisted of warriors that had large Swiss Army knives and a giant robot, the series would’ve been gold. Just remember to keep swimming and if you get lost, follow the shells back home.

        Liked by 1 person

      • I don’t really buy that. I mean, just look at Go-Busters. It tried to walk the same path JAKQ did in many regards, but it (sorta) flopped too… To me, it feels like the Japanese aren’t fond of such sudden changes when it comes to their Sentai. :X Though maybe giant robots would’ve helped, but I don’t think it’d be a necessity when Go was such a smash hit without ’em.

        Thank you, though! ^-^

      • The problem with Go-Busters was that it didn’t know what it was. They didn’t do as much spy work and their animal powers could’ve been explained another way. I also found Jin and Stag to be out of place because of how different they were to the other Busters. I’ll take a team with five members who get a sixth any day over one team meeting up with another or a trio who gets two upper class warriors. Abaranger was alright, but Asuka was ruined by Tommy and Mikoto was evil. At least Liveman only added two regular members who had mechs that were as strong as three.

Goranger didn’t need mech fights, but I found the costumes to be a problem. They only needed the numbers on the helmets and not chevrons. Also, three rangers with black gloves and boots reminded me of the mutant rangers and the evil robots from Lightspeed. Akaranger’s costume was good because he was the first ranger ever and he needed to stand out from all other generations to come.

It’s a shame that rampage is taking a break with their subbing, I think, because we’re almost to the second Kiranger story arc.

      • Go-Busters was forced to change from what it originally set out to be. And I didn’t understand half of your references because apparently it was Power Rangers… 😛

Can’t speak on Rampage’s behalf, but we’re ready to do more episodes whenever they are.

      • Tommy was overly glorified because he was the first sixth ranger. They made it seem like his arrival in a fight was meant to show he was so powerful. He didn’t know much about Burai’s issue with timing, then again no one knew much about Super Sentai at the time. Tommy kept coming back with more powers and other generations made him seem amazing. If he didn’t come back for the last 20 episodes of Mighty Morphin’ season one, Jason, Zach and Trini wouldn’t have been written off due to money, but Adam was cool.

I don’t know much about Rampage because they don’t do updates like you do and I thank you.

Your new avatar is nice because it reminds me of what could happen if The Joker and Harley Quin have a daughter.

      • Honestly, I know very little about (and don’t really care for) Power Rangers so I’ll go ahead and take your word for it. 🙂 I’d like to point out that many of us who didn’t grow up in the USA knew about Super Sentai, though. It aired all over Asia and Europe, and Brazil… Etc.

Thank you though, I like my new avatar too. ^-^

      • The only faithful generations of Power Rangers are Wild Force, Time Force and Samurai. All other series are hard to watch after seeing their source material. If you want to watch a good series about men being idiots, try The Red Green Show.

Also, I need a name for a secret society for something I’m working on and I was wondering how the Society of the Silver Owl sounds. I like owls and they go well with what the society does.

Oh, did you zodiac sign change with the new calendar? I got the new one and when I saw how they adjusted the dates, it wasn’t a very accurate division of the year. 52 divided by 13 is 4 and some signs got more than their share of weeks.

      • I think that name sounds fine, personally speaking. But you should use what you like, so my opinion shouldn’t really matter. 😛

Napes, I’m still considered a Taurus (I think). But we only care about the ‘Chinese’ zodiac in my household anyway, so it doesn’t affect me at all TBH.

      • If I could combine my zodiac signs, I’d be a serpentine Sagittarius.

Thanks for the like on the name because I had the idea for the society, but the name eluded me. Owls and silver have their place in in myth and that’s what I’m writing about. Now comes for the long process of typing out what I wrote by hand with a few more details.

  8. I agree with Retro Paladin on the subject of Tommy because I prefer a fresh cast each season with cameos. Him as the Black Ranger made him seem like a god with the shoulder pads, gold trim and power staff. I found it total blasphemy when he showed up in Super Megaforce with all of his powers because the only ones that were in tact were Zeo’s. It was stated that the Green Power Coin was out of juice and the White Tiger power was lost due to Rito. Turbo was just passed, so he could be the Red Turbo if TJ wanted to be Blue Space. Then again that hole series was just weird.

I watch Spaceballs recently and noticed that Lord Helmet’s costume would fit nicely in both Goranger and Battle Fever J. Other than the phallic nature of the outfit and primary use of his ring, Lord Helmet would be a perfect retro Super Sentai villain. Can’t wait for more episodes.

    • …I think I followed all that. ‘^^ Lord Helmet IS in a Super Sentai series, though! Have you not seen Sun Vulcan? He’s the main baddie! xD

For reals though, our timer Makibishi lurvs SpaceBalls. It’s a classic, hahaha

      • I loved Sun Vulcan. It was the first Sentai series I watched all the way through. I did find the three man team to be a little odd. If there were five members on the team, that would make Gokai Silver the 201st hero and that would’ve been a momentous occasion.

I wish that there was a sequel to Spaceballs before John Candy died and Rick Moranis left to be a dad.

      • I’m all for gender equality/inclusion, especially so having two sisters who look up to the female team members, but I thought Sun Vulcan’s male trio was pretty neat. Albeit, I wouldn’t want them doing it again but still. *shrug*

John Candy passed away? …He passed away ages ago. Wow, that’s really sad. :\

      • John Candy died because of a role that killed John Belusci and Chris Farley. I forget the movie, but if a funny fat guy wanted the role, they died some time later. 😦
